2,600 workplaces have been created on the territory of SEZ NIPT

The government of the Republic of Kazakhstan discussed the development of special economic and industrial zones on Tuesday.

Deputy Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Asset Magauov stated that as of May 1, 2019, the volume of products produced on the territory of SEZ “National Industrial Petrochemical Technopark” (NIPT) amounted to KZT 10.1 billion and 2,600 workplaces have been created.

SEZ NIPT in the Atyrau region is established for a period of 25 years, until 2032. The Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan coordinates the activities of the petrochemical technopark.

The total area of the special economic zone is 3,476 hectares. Of these, the Karabatansite has an area of 1,491 hectares, Tengiz – 100 hectares, the product pipeline from Tengiz to Karabatan – 1,600 hectares, the technopark in Atyrau city – 285 hectares.

According to Deputy Minister, the readiness of NIPT is 30-40% of the total cost. Currently, 16 participants have been registered on the territory of the SEZ.

The main projects of the SEZ are manufacturing of polypropylene and polyethylene with a total value of USD 9 billion. Contribution to GDP only of these two projects will amount to 1.5%.

“Moreover, private investors are expected to implement projects for the production of polyethylene terephthalate, methanol and cyclohexane on the territory of the SEZ, which are at different stages of development,” Asset Magauov said.

These projects, according to him, will attract about USD 2.5 billion of investment and will create up to 10,000 workplaces at the construction stage and 1,500 – at the operation stage.
