Petrocouncil continues to publish articles about EPC contractors that work in big oil&gas projects in Kazakhstan. This time we will focus on the Turkish company JSC “Gate Inshaat Taahhut Sanayi ve Ticaret”.
(GATE Construction) GATE Construction was founded in Istanbul in 2002 to enable JSC “TEKFEN INSAAT VE TESISAT ANONIM SIRKETI” (TEKFEN Construction) to operate more efficiently in the Republic of Kazakhstan. GATE Construction is subsidiary of TEKFEN Construction, a leading company in the construction sector of the Turkish Republic .
GATE Construction has a 1st category license of the Republic of Kazakhstan for design, construction and installation work, also has ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certificates and is committed to high quality standards. GATE is proud of the fact that since 2003 it has completed many key projects on time within the budget to improve the welfare of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The company adheres to the principle of working in harmony with its social environment. Priority is given to supporting social projects, as well as improving the qualifications of employees in Kazakhstan through professional trainings. The company is engaged in the construction of industrial and petrochemical facilities, power plants, roads, airports, oil depots, railways, sea terminals, the production of metal structures and pipelines.
The activities of GATE Construction in the Republic of Kazakhstan began in 2003 with the reconstruction of the Atyrau refinery. After completing the reconstruction project in ANPZ, GATE Construction started to work at Kashagan Project with NCOC. At the Kashagan field, as a contractor of the NCOC consortium, it completed complex work on the construction of a combined cycle of natural gas with a capacity of 238 megawatts, consisting of steam turbines with a capacity of 2 x 35 megawatts and gas turbines with a capacity of 4 x 42 megawatts, to meet the energy needs of the 1st 2nd and 3rd tranches of Kashagan, with activities engineering, procurement, piling, civil, mechanical, piping, E&I, pre-commissioning and commissioning works.
Another EPC project for Kashagan was the Kashagan Industrial Buildings Project, consisting of a combined control building, a fire station, a central office building, a machine shop, an electrical tool shop, two warehouses, a laboratory building.
The last project for Kashagan was the Kashagan Main Works Projects, which consists of building Tranche 1, 2 and 3 with all construction activities.
During the execution of all 3 Kashagan Projects, GATE reached to a manpower of 6,500 at peak. GATE Construction has been working with TCO, for FGP since 2015. Till now completed and handed over 3 projects to the Client, which consists of Temporary Offices Project, Infrastructure Works in Construction Compound Project and Temporary Facilities Project. The ongoing project in FGP is the Wellhead Pressure Management Project as part of the expansion of production capacities in the Tengiz and Korolev oil fields.
GATE Construction is carrying out construction and commissioning works for the third generation production site of Zone 51 MWP, construction, mechanical, electrical and control and measurement works. Progress of the project as of now is 75% and the project completion is foreseen as mid of 2022.In early days of GATE Construction in Kazakhstan, there were some labor conflicts in ANPZ and Kashagan works, but GATE Construction by successfully increasing local content, overcome these kinds of issues.
GATE Construction is achieving local content more than 90% nowadays, well over their commitment to Government & Client, and more than other international contractors in the region. GATE Construction is also active on social responsibility initiatives and provides charitable assistance on an ongoing basis.GATE Construction continuously support low-income families, talented children, social facilities, students from low-income families, periodically organizes job fairs, retraining and employment of personnel.
As a continuing effort to maximize local content, GATE Construction established a joint venture with the Kazakh company ISKER, and now participating tenders through this newly formed JV ISTEK Construction. . GATE Construction, having seven decades of international and two decades of local experience, completed 58 million manhours in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
