Digital transformation can increase the profitability of the oil and gas industry to USD 1 trillion

What digital technologies does Tengizchevroil use today, and what technologies does it plan to introduce in the future? Applications Supervisor at Tengizchevroil LLP, Aidar Satubaldin, answered these questions at the conference “PROFIT Energy Day. Information Technology in Energy Sector” organized for managers, IT specialists of energy companies.

“Digitalization is useful not only in saving money, it also helps companies to be safer and to comply with environmental standards. There are environmental benefits that include reducing emissions, saving water, avoiding oil spills,” said Aidar Satubaldin, Applications Supervisor at Tengizchevroil LLP.

According to the analytical report of the World Economic Forum, digital transformation can increase the profitability of the oil and gas industry by USD 1 trillion. In particular, environmental benefits include a reduction in CO2 emissions equivalent to 1,300 million tons, which will save about 800 million gallons of water and avoid oil spills equivalent to about 230,000 barrels of oil.

At the moment, the global oil and gas industry ranks last among other industries in terms of penetration of digitalization.

TCO representative told the conference participants what information resources are actively used in the company today. For example, the company uses technologies of cloud computing, data processing and analysis, high-performance computing systems, Industrial Internet of Things.

Thus, a Single Corporate TCO Database has been created, which includes structured and real-time data.

“When all these data are collected in a single database, you have the opportunity to create additional analytics, to use artificial intelligence, to look at your field, your company from a different point of view, from the point of view of efficiency,” explains Aydar Satubaldin.

Also, as a positive experience in the use of digital technologies, he called information management of production facilities, when all technical documentation is available in a single portal. In a large company that has a lot of technical documentation, which can be in different departments, such a single portal greatly saves time and increases production efficiency.

The company uses cloud solutions and servers for data processing and analysis. Information technology is also used to manage the workflow by making user solutions, identifying potential opportunities to improve the reliability of inventories and reduce costs.

TCO also uses the existing system of satellite monitoring of motor vehicles to obtain new ideas, identify violations and a positive influence on the behavior of drivers.

For example, every vehicle has a camera that with the help of artificial intelligence technologies can determine the fatigue of the person. If it determines the driver is tired, it signals the driver to stop at the side of the road, to refresh himself and only then to continue the journey.

Now the company is developing projects on the use of artificial intelligence, process automation and robotics. And in the future, it considers the possibility of introducing blockchain technology, additive technology, augmented and virtual reality.
